Last Thursday, my sister and I were invited along to Ladies Day at Royal Ascot with the lovely team at Dove. I've never been to Ascot before, so was really excited for a fun day out with my sister and my first experience of this legendary British event.
Dove invited us along in celebration of their 'invisible dry' deodorant, which has been tested against white marks on over 100 colours, so we both came along in our most colourful dresses to put it to the test! Ascot Ladies Day was the perfect event for it, as it's the most wonderful place for people (and fashion!) watching, with women sporting their most colourful, outlandish outfits (all with matching hats and headpieces, naturally!)
I chose a simple, coral pleated midi dress from Warehouse, paired with lots of layered necklaces (from J Crew and Forever 21), a gold chain belt from Biba, my nude Ted Baker heels and my latest handbag obsession... my cream Chloe Drew Bag. I also wore a big bow headpiece that I found in TKMaxx last summer, personally I would have loved to go all out and wear a huge hat, but having travelled straight from the airport after an overnight flight, I was pretty limited on what I could fit into my suitcase!
My sister wore a nude and pink lace dress from Forever Unique, Nude Snakeskin heels from Freya Rose and a cream floral fascinator from TKMaxx. It was so much fun to spend some time with Hannah. We used to spend a lot of time together (I actually lived with her for a year when I was at university) but since then out lives have gotten busier and busier... Han's got two gorgeous babies and I travel a lot, so we rarely get to spend girly days out together!
We also bumped into my friend Jen (who is also a blogger at Beauty Junkie in London and has a little long haired miniature dachshund like Piglet - I'd recommend stalking her instagram for seriously cute puppy pics, and her blog for awesome beauty reviews!) and our friend Laura (in the first pic) and had a lovely afternoon drinking champagne and enjoying the sunshine. We got really lucky with the weather and it was a super sunny day, but thanks to Dove we left still feeling fresh, with no white marks in sight!
I really loved wearing something colourful for the occasion as I think it gives you a real mood and confidence boost. I tend to wear a lot of black and white, so I'm making a conscious effort to incorporate more colour into my wardrobe and to try and put together outfits with no black. Dove have actually collaborated with fashion stylist Alex Longmore, confidence coach Natalie Thomas and Pantone Colour Institute Director Leatrice Eiseman to form their 'Colour Confidence Team' to encourage women to get more colour confident this summer and ditch their go-to LBD for an LCD (Little Colourful Dress) instead! They advise that wearing colour in your daily life not only helps to boost confidence, but can also effect your mood (by wearing yellow), energy levels (orange), motivation (red) and even inspiration (purple). Summer is the perfect time to dig out your most colourful clothes from the bottom of your wardrobe, so why not go for something a little more colourful this weekend, and see if it gives you a little confidence boost!
